St Peter Lieou, also known as Liu Wenyuan Petrus or Baiduo, was a layman missionary who had Converted to Christianity. He was born in 1760 in Guizhou, China and died as a martyr on May 17 1834 at the age of 74 in Guiyang, Guizhou, China. We celebrate his feast day on May 17 every year in the Catholic Church.

Saint’s Biography
Saint Peter Lieou was a married layman who converted to Christianity. In 1841, he was banished for his faith in Mongolia and was permitted to return in 1827 from exile.
Peter began working with Catholic missionaries to spread the gospel. When the persecution resumed, many Christians were imprisoned.
Peter escaped arrest but was caught preaching to prisoners, including his own sons. They strangled him on May 17, 1834, in Guiyang, Guizhou, China.
