Biography
Saint Philip Evans, trained at the College of St. Omer. Could play harp and play tennis. Joined the Jesuits on September 7, 1665. Ordained in Liège, Belgium. Sent to South Wales in 1675 to serve as Minister of Undercover Catholics. Arrested at Christopher Turberville’s home in Sker, Glamorganshire, on December 4, 1678, during the mounting persecution following the conspiracy of Titus Oates. When he refused to take the oath of supremacy, he was imprisoned in Cardiff Castle. He served time with Saint John Lloyd. Convicted on 5 May 1679 in Cardiff for being a priest. One of the forty martyrs of England and Wales.
