St Possidius of Calama was the Bishop of Calama, Numidia. He was born in the 4th century in Numidia, Algeria and died in 440 AD in Mirandola, Apulia, Italy. We celebrate his feast day on May 16 every year in the Catholic Church.

Saint’s Biography
Saint Possidius of Calama was a spiritual pupil of St.Augustine of Hippo. In 397 he became the bishop of Calama, Numidia in Algeria. In his diocese, he preached against Arianism, Donatism, and Pelagianism.
He and his priests were attacked by followers of these heresies and damaged his churches. Possidius was banished by Arian Vandals.
He brought the relics of St. Stephen the Martyr into his diocese and set up Augustinians in the cathedral. Possidius wrote a biography of St. Augustine and compiled a catalog of Augustine’s works.
He died in 440 AD in Italy of natural causes.
