Saint Rigobert of Rheims Life History

Saint Rigobert of Rheims was born in the late 600 in Reims, France. He was the son of Constantine from an old riparian family. When his parents noticed that their son had a strong propensity for piety, they sent him to the Orbais monastery France which was founded in 680 by their nephew, the Saint bishop Regulus of Reims.

There, Rigobert got his first education in the monastery school. The school taught them the science of the saints.

He prayed and never spoke unnecessarily, and he combined extraordinary wisdom and wisdom with great goodness so he easily won the heart of those he spoke to.

These good qualities led him to be entrusted with ever-increasing duties, and he took over the leadership of the Orbais monastery as an abbot, an office he held until 695.

In 695, Rigobert named the 27th Bishop of Reims in the current Marne Ministry after Saint Regulus (673-89; d. 695), who was his cousin.

He sent to exile in Gascony and able to return to Reims where he had been supplanted by a bishop in the pay of Charles Martel. He then experienced a life of prayer and humiliation, withdrawn in solitude.

In, 864 Rigobert’s remains transferred to Reims and the church of Saint-Thierry by Archbishop Hinkmar (845-82). After nine years, in 873, they were transferred to Saint-Denis Cathedral in Reims.

When the church was removed in 892, Archbishop Fulco (fr: Foulques) (882-900) received relics brought to the church of Notre-Dame.

A period they also rested in the church of Neminches in Vermandois, but from there the Archbishop Herivanus (fr: Hervé) (900-22) in 896 allowed them to bend to the new church Saint-Denis outside the city where they were kept and honored all the way to The French Revolution. Parts of the relics later came to Paris.
