St. Theophilus the Penitent Biography
St. Theophilus the Penitent was Archdeacon and treasurer of the Church in Adana, Cilicia, Turkey. He was later offered the Bishop of Turkey and declined the offer claiming that he was fit for the task.
He was removed from the position of a Bishop due to some accusations of stealing church funds. In anger, Theophilus signed a pact with a demon to avenge himself on the Bishop and get his position.
However, when he came into his senses, he begged for pardon and asked Our Lady who intervened and recovered the pact. It was burnt in a public square.
