St Ubaldus Baldassini, also called Ubaldo or Ubald, was the Bishop of Gubbio. He was born in 1085 in Gubbio near Ancona, Umbria, Italy and died on May 16 1160 at Gubbio. We celebrate his feast day on May 16 every year in the Catholic Church.

Saint’s Biography
St. Ubaldus Baldassini was born into a noble family. He lost his father when he was very young. He studied at the cathedral in Gubbio, Italy, where he also became a regular canon.
Ubaldus became a monk for several years in the monastery of St. Secondo in Gubbio. In 1115 he became a priest and around 1120 he convinced the canons of his chapter to lead a common life under the rule prescribed by Peter degli Onesti.
In 1128 he wanted to be a recluse but was advised against it, and Ubaldus accepted to be the bishop of Gubbio. Ubaldus’s tomb and the shrine of Ubaldusis still a place of pilgrimage.
