Saint’s Biography
Saint Ursmar was a bishop-abbot of Lobbes. It was assumed he born, towards the middle of the 7th Century, perhaps on 27 July 644. In Fontanelle, Belgium. History tells us the Saint Ursma before his birth announced his coming into the world. His mother saw a vision of the future greatness of his son.
In 670 Saint Ursmar was ordained a priest by Sant’Amando. He was active during his priesthood spreading the Gospel message among the pagans in the areas of Fagne and Thiérache.
Saint Ursmar went on a pilgrimage to Rome, equipped with letters and licenses addressed to Pope Sergius I to receive him. He undertook many missionary apostolic journeys where he founded several monasteries. In 711, Saint Ursmar earn the title of the abbot of Lobbes.
Death
St. Ursmar died in 713 in Lobbes, Belgium of natural causes.
