St Albert of Trapani Life History
St Albert of Trapani’s parents promised that if they were blessed with a son, he would be dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Albert was educated in a Carmelite monastery, and when he was 18 years, he joined the Order.
After priestly studies, he was ordained as a Priest. He later became a teacher in the monastery. He became a begging priest and preacher among the Sicilians and managed to convert many especially the Jews to the Catholic faith.
This miracle-working priest became the Sicilian Carmelite provincial in 1257, where he worked both as a preacher and administrator.
Around 1301, Duke Robert of Calabria, Italy invaded the city of Messina and blocked entry to the city such that essential supplies could not come in, especially food.
The city was faced with diseases and near starvation. The city’s authority requested Albert and the monastery for intervention and Albert celebrated Mass, offering it as a plea for God’s deliverance.
When he finished celebrating the mass, three ships loaded with grain passed the blockade and the city was saved from starvation, and eventually Duke Robert lifted the siege.
Albert was so well remembered for this intervention that a city gate was dedicated in his honor over 300 years later.
In his later years, Albert retired to a small monastery near Messina and spent his time in prayer, meditation, and communion. He died on August 7 1307 in Messina, Italy canonized on May 31 1476 by Pope Sixtus IV
