St Bruno of Wurzburg Life History
St Bruno of Wurzburg was the son of Duke Conrad of Carinthia and Baroness Matilda, nephew of Pope Gregory V, and cousin to emperor Conrad II. He was also the great nephew of Saint Bruno of Querfort.
He was ordained at a very young age as a priest and later, in 1033 AD, became the bishop of Würzburg, Germany. He built the Cathedral of Saint Killian and several parish churches from his personal funds. He was a famous scholar and author who wrote a commentary on the Psalms and was famously known as the Father of the poor through his charity.
He was a peacemaker who ended the siege of Milan, Italy, and was part of emperor Henry III’s campaign against the Hungarians.
St Bruno of Wurzburg died on May 26 1045 when a building collapsed in Persenberg (Bosenburg) (in modern-day Austria)
