St Julius the Veteran Life History
For 27 years, St Julius was a soldier in the imperial Roman army and a veteran of seven campaigns. Along the way, he converted to Christianity but because he was a good soldier, this did not matter much to anyone.
Unfortunately, on one of the occasions of Christian persecution, his fellow soldiers betrayed him and he was set for execution. Maximus, the examining prefect, tried to persuade him to denounce his faith but Julius declined.
In 302 AD Julius was beheaded in Durostorum on the lower Danube River in Bulgaria and died as a martyr for his faith.
