St Ponsiano Ngondwe, also known as Pontian, is one of the Martyrs of Uganda. He was born in mid 19th century in Bulimo in Kyaggwe Naggalama Parish, Uganda and died as a martyr on May 26 1886 at Ttakajjunge, Uganda. We celebrate his feast day on May 26 and June 3 every year in the Catholic Church.

St Ponsiano Ngondwe Life History
St Ponsiano Ngondwe was born in Bulimo in Kyaggwe Naggalama Parish, Uganda. His father was Birenge Mbaziira and his mother was Mukomulwanyi.
When he was about 10 years of age, he was taken to King Mwanga’s palace where he grew up he worked as a brave policeman.
Legend has it that Ngondwe was very ruthless, merciless, and hot-tempered but after converting to Catholic Christianity, he made a U-turn and became kind, understanding, and peaceful.
Ngondwe was baptized on November 16 1885, and from then he began to live a very fulfilling Christian life whose faith and actions were noticed by King Mwanga who hated Christians.
One time Ngondwe was falsely accused of stealing King Mwanga’s cattle and he was thrown into prison. Thereafter, when Mwanga was authorizing execution of Christians, he remembered St Ponsiano Ngondwe wo was still in prison and asked that he be executed too.
When the executioner asked Ngondwe whether he was a Christian, he said yes and the executioner pierced him in the chest three times, killing him instantly. His body was left out there to be eaten by the birds.
