Today’s Bible Verse of the Day Reflections
Jesus is teaching us today about our destiny. That our destiny is not to live here on earth forever but to go to heaven.
We should not live our day-to-day lives as if we will live forever on Earth. We shall die one day and face our destiny.
Christ teaches us that we should undertake our day-to-day activities with the sole purpose of securing a spot in heaven where we are guaranteed that life is everlasting.
Most of us amass wealth by hook or crook thinking that wealth will give us happiness here on earth. Well, it may give you some comfort and a little convenience but deny you the happiness that everyone covets. It will also certainly deny you the qualities of going to heaven.
In Matthew 19:16-24, Jesus gives us this very teaching through that rich young man who had sought the advice of Jesus on how to gain eternal life.
When the young man was told to sell all his properties and give the proceeds to the poor then follow Jesus, he walked away very sad since he was truly well-to-do.
Jesus finally tells us that it is very hard or next to impossible for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God.
Now, we all know how to store treasures on earth, how then do we store up treasures in Heaven?
Jesus tells us that when we forfeit all the fun, pleasures, merry, comfort, convenience et al of earthly treasures then we are storing our treasures in heaven.
So, are money and wealth bad? No! It is only bad when
- You Hurt others when acquiring it
- You store it in banks etc and turn down pleas from the least of your brothers who really need it in order to survive
- You use it to hurt and persecute others
- You get so much money and forget the Lord your God etc
So Jesus tells us to use the material wealth we have here on earth to do good to our neighbours, Church and our disadvantaged brothers and sisters and by doing so we will be storing our treasures in Heaven.
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, we pray that You continue teaching us and reminding us of the need to be of service to others using the material wealth we have. May we feed the hungry, shelter the homeless and quench the thirsty so that we can enter into the Home of our Heavenly Father. Jesus, I love you. Amen.
