July 31 2024: Bible Verse of the Day: Parable of the Hidden Treasure – The Kingdom of Heaven is Like a Treasure Buried in a Field – Matthew 13:44-46 – Wednesday of the Seventeenth week in Ordinary Time

Jesus said to his disciples:
44 “The Kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
45 Again, the Kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls.
46 When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it.” – Matthew 13:44-46

Today’s Bible Verse of the Day Reflections

Jesus today gives us a very good example, in the parable of the Hidden Treasure, of what all of us should seek while we are here on earth. He gives us the ultimate destination that all of us should aim at.

You know, all the material wealth that we have here on earth is just a factor of service that we should use to serve God. We do not own that wealth because when we were born we met it here and when we die, we will leave it here.

Let me give you God’s cycle and wish for mankind! We came from God, He placed us here on earth to serve Him with the wealth that He gives us and finally, He wishes that we rejoin Him again in His Heavenly Kingdom.

What mankind does, and is wrong, is that He comes from God during birth, comes to the world and God gives him some wealth to serve Him, but instead of the man serving God with that wealth, he begins to worship that wealth instead of worshipping God who gave him that wealth. He forgets God and God becomes angry with him.

Now, God sent His Son Jesus Christ to remind us that we should not lose focus of our destiny. We should not let the devil confuse us with the little wealth we find here on earth and think it is the destiny we have.

The destiny we have is going back to our Heavenly Father after we finish the task that He created us to do.

Jesus tells us that our destiny, which is to enter the Kingdom of God, should be sought after by all means possible including sacrificing every comfort and luxury that is brought by material wealth and focusing on only serving God.

Material wealth, if gotten for other reasons other than serving God, tends to deviate man’s attention from God and that is why Jesus is telling us that if we really want to go back to God on the last day, then we need to offload and avoid the excess and evil wealth.

Otherwise, this material wealth will lead us into the fiery Gehennah where we will burn, moan and grind our teeth.

Let us therefore, seek the kingdom of God, the way we search for a very great treasure, for which we can do anything possible to buy and keep it for ourselves.

Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, give us the strength to avoid the temptation to amass wealth in an evil way or for evil gains. Give us enough to serve You the way You deserve so that on the last day we may join You again in Heaven. Jesus, I love you. Amen
