Blessed Abbo of Fleury Biography
Saint Abbo of Fleury was a Benedictine monk. He studied at Paris, Rheims, and Orleans in France. Abbo was one of the greatest scholars of his age. up to date, we have writings by him on Mathematics, Philosophy, Astronomy, Canon law, and Theology.
In 988 AD, he served as the head of the Fleury-sur-Loire, France where he initiated Cluniac observance. His elections were disputed which was later resolved by the Bishop who would later become Pope Sylvester II.
He made the Abbey school renown. Abbo fought for the rights of the monks at the Synod of Saint-Denis in 995 AD.
He was the Ambassador to the Vatican where he made close friends with pope Gregory V. Abbo assisted in Peacemaking between Pope Gregory V and King Robert of France. Later he was killed during a riot by the monks he was trying to reform.
