Biography
Bl. Eustochium of Padua was the daughter of a Paduan nun who had been seduced to neglect her vow to chastity. She grew in the convent where she felt a call to religion. However, the majority of the sisters opposed due to the scandal of her birth.
The bishop approved her vocation of sisterhood and she joined the Benedictine nuns in 1461 taking the name Eustochium.
She suffered violent fits for four continuous years and was considered possessed, was imprisoned and fed on only bread and water.
Even when her abbess fell ill she was accused of poisoning her and had to be saved from a mob in town which wanted to burn her.
She died soon after her formal vows and the name of Jesus was found scorched on her breast.
