Blessed John Nelson Biography
John Nelson studied priesthood at Douai France at the age of 39. He was later ordained on !! June 1576 at Binche, Belgium. Two of his brothers followed him into the priesthood. John later returned to London, England on 7 November 1576 as a missionary where he joined the Jesuits before his arrest.
On December 1, 1577, he was arrested while at prayers and charged with Catholicism. On January 30, 1578, he happened to celebrate mass in Prison with materials which had been smuggled in.
He was later condemned for catholic priesthood and neglect to acknowledge the Queen’s supremacy in spiritual matters. He was thrown into a ditch of the tower of London for two days and the prosecuted. His last words were “I forgive the queen and all the authors of my death.”
