1st Reading – 1 John 2:22-28
Beloved:
22 Who is a liar, but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is Antichrist, who denies the Father, and the Son.
23 Whosoever denies the Son, the same has not the Father. He that confesses the Son, has the Father also.
24 As for you, let that which you have heard from the beginning, abide in you. If that abide in you, which you have heard from the beginning, you also shall abide in the Son, and in the Father.
25 And this is the promise which he has promised us, life everlasting.
26 These things have I written to you, concerning them that seduce you.
27 And as for you, let the anointing, which you have received from him, abide in you. And you have no need that any man teach you; but as his anointing teaches you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie. And as it has taught you, abide in him.
28 And now, little children, abide in him, that when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be confounded by him at his coming.

Gospel – John 1:19-28
19 And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent from Jerusalem priests and Levites to him, to ask him: Who are you?
20 And he confessed, and did not deny: and he confessed: I am not the Christ.
21 And they asked him: What then? Are you Elijah? And he said: I am not. Are you the prophet? And he answered: No.
22 They said therefore unto him: Who are you, that we may give an answer to them that sent us? What do you have to say for yourself?”
23 He said: I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Isaiah.
24 Some Pharisees were also sent.
25 And they asked him, and said to him: Why then do you baptize, if you are not Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?
26 John answered them, saying: I baptize with water; but there has stood one in the midst of you, whom you know not.
27 The same is he that shall come after me, who is preferred before me: the latchet of whose shoe I am not worthy to loose.
28 These things were done in Bethania, beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
