Saint’s Biography
Saint Andeolus of Smyrna worked as a Sub-deacon in Smyrna. He was a spiritual student of Saint Polycarp of Smyrna who sent him with Saint Benignus, Saint Andochius, and Saint Thyrsus to evangelize the Vivarais in Gaul. He was knifed in the head in the shape of a cross in 208 near Viviers, Gaul (modern France) near the river Rhone. His body was thrown into the river, but a pagan woman found it, received a miraculous knowledge of the holiness of the victim, converted to Christianity, and helped give the body a proper burial.
