Saint’s Biography
Saint Cyril of Turov was born in 1130 AD. He was a prominent preacher fluent in Greek and Russian. He first became a monk in the monastery of Turov Borisoglebsk. In 1174 Cyril elected bishop of Turov.
Cyril Preached discipline and obedience to his fellow monks and wrote about the monastic life, and some of his works have survived the centuries. Cyril became a hermit on a pillar.
His simple life, scholarly background, and reputation of sanctity drew many would-be followers. He was most learned biblical scholar in the Russian and Prince Andrei Bogoliubsky appointed him to be his spiritual counselor between the Church and state.
Death
In 1179 he returned to his monastery and died there three years later, on April 28, 1182, of natural causes.
