Biography
St. Ermenilda of Ely was born a princess being the daughter to King Erconbert of Kent and saint Sexburga of Ely. She was a religious youth with a strong prayer passion. Ermenilda got married to a pagan, the King of Mercia whom she later converted by setting a good example.
She is the mother to Saint Werburga of Chester and King Coenrad of Mercia who converted to become a Benedictine monk in Rome. Ermenilda used her royal powers to end paganism in the region. After her husband’s death, she became a Benedictine nun at Minster-in-Sheppy abbey which was founded by her mother.
