St. Gregory II Biography
St. Gregory II was involved in church activities from a very tender age. He was ordained a sub-deacon by Pope Saint Sergius I. Gregory served as a treasurer in the church for next four popes and then became a librarian. He accompanied Pope Constantine to Constantinople to discuss with Emperor Justinian II.
Gregory was elected the 89th pope in 715 AD and held synods to correct abuses promoting discipline and morality in religious life. He also built a great portion of the walls of Rome, Italy to protect the city against the Lombards. He restored churches caring for the sick and the aged. Gregory consecrated Saint Boniface and Saint Corbinian as bishops to the tribes in Germany.
