Saint Maximus of Vienne was the son of Gundebertus and Magneldis, he studied at the convent school of Saint-Etienne, Cahors, France.
His family arranged a marriage to one Hebrildis but he refused which led to a beating by his father and Maximus leaving home to live as a hermit.
While on a bear hunt, his father found Maximus in his hermitage, took him prisoner, hauled him home and announced that the wedding was on again.
Maximus escaped and fled to the monastery of Saint-Martial near Limoges, France and then to the monastery of Saint-Mauritius in Vienne, France where he became a monk and lived the rest of his life. Also a Priest and Abbot of Saint-Mauritius.
