Saint Paulus Liu Hanzuo Biography
St. Paulus Liu Hanzuo was raised in a poor Christian family and worked as a shepherd in his young age and was not well educated. He had a calling to the priesthood and entered seminary at age 24. However, since he didn’t know Latin, he was allowed to study theology in Chinese.
He was then ordained a priest in Sichuan, China. He worked as a vegetable seller during the day and evangelized at night to convert Catholics due to the rising Christian persecutions during that time. Paulus was then betrayed by a carpenter to the authorities. He was caught in the middle of mass when they came for his arrest but asked for permission to finish first. He was later arrested after mass and when he failed to denounce his faith he was executed and killed.
