St Peregrine Laziosi Life History
Saint Peregrine Laziosi was born to a wealthy family and spent a worldly youth involving himself in politics. He was initially strongly anti–Catholic. During a popular revolt, Peregrine struck the papal peace negotiator, Saint Philip Benizi, across the face. Saint Philip calmly turned the other cheek, prayed for the youth, and Peregrine had a conversion.
St. Peregrine Laziosi received a vision of Our Lady who told him to go to Siena, Italy, and there he joined the Servites. After training and ordination, they assigned him to his hometown. He lived and worked, as much as possible, in complete silence, in solitude, and without sitting down for 30 years to do penance for his early life. When St. Peregrine Laziosi spoke, he was known as a passionate preacher, an excellent orator, and gentle confessor. He founded a Servite house at Forli, Italy.
Death
St. Peregrine Laziosi fell victim of cancer and died on May 1, 1345, at Forli, Italy of natural causes.
