Saint Servan of Culross Biography
Saint Servan of Culross was a missionary to the Scots. Later made bishop most likely consecrated by Saint Palladius.
Saint Servan Early Life
A writer named David Hugh Farmer wrote that the legend of Serf. He called it “a farrago of wild impossibilities.”In the legend, he states that Serf was the son of Eliud, King of Canaan. His Mother Alphia, was the daughter of the King of Arabia. They were Childless for a long time, but at long last, they had two sons: the second being Serf. Serf arrived in Rome, having such a reputation for sanctity that they elected him as Pope, he served for seven years.
Retirement
After vacating the Holy See, he traveled to Gaul and Britain, finally returning to Scotland. While there, he met Adomnán who was theAbbot of Iona. He showed him an island located in Loch Leven, later called St. Serf’s Inch. During that time, the island was part of the Pictish kingdom of Fife which was by then called Fib. St. Serf established the priory of St Serf’s Inch on the island. That was where he spent the following seven years. St. Serf’s Inch, was a community of Augustinian canons founded from St. Andrews Cathedral Priory. Founded during the initiation of King David I of Scotland, in 1150. beginning from the 15th century onwards the priory became known as “Portmoak”.
The main area of operations for his cult was in Culross. According to legend, established by the saint Serf at Dunning, in Strathearn. Believed to have slain a dragon using only his pastoral staff.
Death
In the end, after performing many miracles, after founding many churches, and his divine virtues. St. Serf having made his peace passed away in the cell at Dunning. He died on July 1, and his body was taken to Cuilenross now Culross, by his disciples and the townspeople. There he was honorably buried, with psalms and hymns and canticles.
