Saint William of Rochester Biography
St William of Rochester lived a carefree life as a youth but in adult life, he changed and became very pious and devoted to God. He was a baker and took care of poor and the orphans.
He adopted one of the orphans and named him David and is therefore regarded as the patron saint of adopted children.
William and David went on pilgrimage to Jerusalem and when they reached near Rochester, England, David clubbed him, cut his throat, robbed William and fled.
When a mentally deranged woman found his body and cared for it, she was miraculously cured of her mental problems.
Other miracles have been reported at his grave, and it is said that he was canonized by Pope Alexander IV in 1256. His body was interred in the Rochester Cathedral.
