Daily Mass Readings for June 4 2024, Tuesday of the Ninth Week in Ordinary Time
1st Reading – 2 Peter 3:12-15A, 17-18
12 Beloved: As you wait for the Day of God and do your best to make it come soon — the Day when the heavens will burn up and be destroyed, and the heavenly bodies will be melted by the heat.
13 But we wait for what God has promised: new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness will be at home.
14 And so, my friends, as you wait for that Day, do your best to be pure and faultless in God’s sight and to be at peace with him.
15A And consider the patience of our Lord as salvation.
17 But you, my friends, already know this. Be on your guard, then, so that you will not be led away by the errors of lawless people and fall from your safe position.
18 But continue to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be the glory, now and for ever! Amen.
Responsorial Psalm – Psalms 90:2, 3-4, 10, 14 AND 16
R. (1) In every age, O Lord, you have been our refuge.
2 Before the mountains were begotten
and the earth and the world were brought forth,
from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
R. In every age, O Lord, you have been our refuge.
3 You turn man back to dust,
saying, “Return, O children of men.”
4 For a thousand years in your sight
are as yesterday, now that it is past,
or as a watch of the night.
R. In every age, O Lord, you have been our refuge.
10 Seventy is the sum of our years,
or eighty, if we are strong,
And most of them are fruitless toil,
for they pass quickly and we drift away.
R. In every age, O Lord, you have been our refuge.
14 Fill us at daybreak with your kindness,
that we may shout for joy and gladness all our days.
16 Let your work be seen by your servants
and your glory by their children.
R. In every age, O Lord, you have been our refuge.
Alleluia – SEE Ephesians 1:17-18
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
17A May the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ
18AB enlighten the eyes of our hearts,
that we may know what is the hope
that belongs to his call.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel – Mark 12:13-17
13 Some Pharisees and some members of Herod’s party were sent to Jesus to trap him with questions.
14 They came to him and said, “Teacher, we know that you tell the truth, without worrying about what people think. You pay no attention to anyone’s status, but teach the truth about God’s will for people. Tell us, is it against our Law to pay taxes to the Roman Emperor? Should we pay them or not?”
15 But Jesus saw through their trick and answered, “Why are you trying to trap me? Bring a silver coin, and let me see it.”
16 They brought one to him and he said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?” They replied to him, “Caesar’s.”
17 So Jesus said, “Well, then, pay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.” And they were amazed at Jesus.
