Bl. Ioan Bãlan was born on 11 February 1880 AD in Teius, Alba, Romania. He studied theology in Budapest, Hungary and in Vienna, Austria. He was ordained a Romanian Greek-Catholic Rite priest on 7 July 1903 AD.
