Saint’s Biography
Saint Cosmas the Melodist was bishop of Mayuma, near Gaza. He was born in 706 in Jerusalem to very poor parents. He was educated by an Italian monk who was captured by the Arabs. He became a monk in the monastery of San Saba near Bethlehem and put into practice what he had learned from his master. In 743 he was elected Bishop of Mayuma. He died in the year 760.
