Saint’s Biography
Saint Maurus was born to a noble family, the son of Equitius, a senator, and Giulia. He was a spiritual student of Saint Benedict of Nursia. Maurus and Saint Placid studied together. He became St. Benedict’s assistant and succeeded him as abbot of Subiaco Abbey in 525. 543 Maurus founded the abbot of the abbey at Glanfeuil, France. It was later renamed after him. Pope St. Gregory I wrote in his dialogues about Maurus and Placid.
