St Afra of Brescia was a married lay-woman born in the 2nd century AD in Brescia, Lombardy, Italy. She converted to Christianity as an adult after she was baptized by Saint Apollonius of Brescia. She was killed and died as a martyr in 133 AD in Brescia, Italy during Christian persecutions in the reign of Roman Emperor Hadrian. She is the patron saint of Brescia, Italy. We celebrate her feast day on May 24 every year in the Catholic Church.
